The first half of 2011 will see new releases of two popular web browsers. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 is the second Internet browser besides Mozilla’s Firefox 4 that will be released in this time period. Hopes are high in both cases, and preview versions that have been released until now show that the developers have improved their web browser tremendously.
Microsoft’s aim with Internet Explorer 9 is to stop the downwards trend market share wise. They have not only improved the speed and performance of the browser but also its feature set and security to meet the demand of today’s Internet users.
Screenshots (Russian text) of a new Internet Explorer 9 build give interesting information about the development progress. The user interface and design has been improved in the new build, and it looks as if the header of the browser has seen another reduction in height to make more room for the webpages that are displayed in the browser.

The blank tab page and InPrivate browsing mode page have been changed slightly as well. Both pages look sharper and modern.
Improvements have been made in the HTML5 test where the browser now scores 116 points which is an increase of 20 points from the public beta build. The result of the Acid3 test on the other hand has not changed, it is still 95 of 100.
The download manager now displays the transfer rate of each download directly. Before it was only displayed on mouse hover.
A public release candidate of Internet Explorer 9 is expected to be released on January 28.
